WHAT IS REIKI?
Reiki is a Japanese healing and relaxation technique developed by Dr. Mikao Usui in 1922 that channels positive life force energy, also called chi or ki. You can think of life force energy like gravity, wind, or an endless waterfall. There are infinite ways of accessing the water, and Reiki is one way of tapping into that life force energy. It's like Reiki is a funnel that we can place in the waterfall to channel the life force energy and direct it to where we would like it to go through intention...while keeping in mind that Reiki always functions for the highest good and goes where it needs to go. |

The Reiki comes through the practitioner, not from the practitioner, and I serve as a funnel directing Reiki to you and your life change, challenge, transition, or intention. Reiki practitioners can send Reiki to a recipient through the laying on of hands, but Reiki can also be sent over time and space and without touch. In addition to Dr. Usui's development of Reiki, multiple other styles of Reiki have been developed. I practice the original Usui Reiki and am a certified Usui Reiki Master with a clear and direct lineage back to Dr. Usui. You can always ask for proof of lineage or certification to ensure that your practitioner is legitimate.
DOES REIKI HAVE ANY SIDE EFFECTS?
Reiki is a safe technique that most frequently results in a state of relaxation, but can also induce positive emotional, mental, and physical effects. These effects can include physical improvements like pain reduction, stress reduction, greater clarity, inspiration, increased energy, or enhanced dreams and are generally positive, and negative effects are rare. Any effects that may be perceived as negative, such as crying or a headache, are part of the healing process, brief, and do not last. Because it is non-invasive and is not a medical procedure, Reiki is compatible with your current medications and treatment plans. Please note that I do not treat or diagnose any physical or mental illness and that I am not a medical doctor, health care professional, or mental health counselor. Reiki is a supplement to and not a replacement for medical care.
WHAT HAPPENS DURING REIKI, AND HOW DO I PREPARE?
During my sessions, I typically send Reiki to the recipient's chakras, intentions, and any physical areas of the body they wish. While receiving Reiki, generally the recipient sits or lies quietly, and receiving Reiki is very much like meditating or taking a nap...it's ok to fall asleep! No preparation is needed by the recipient. Come as you are and let Reiki do its thing!

As life force energy, Reiki can be sent to any person or situation at any time, and you do not need to be present. This is called distant or distance Reiki, which I specialize in. With this kind of Reiki, there is no physical contact between practitioner and recipient, but even in my in-person sessions I do not make physical contact with the recipient in order to respect all boundaries and alleviate any concerns or fears regarding physical touch. In-person Reiki typically involves light physical touch, but I generally practice a hands-off method.
Distant sessions can be conducted live online, over the phone, recorded, or even just sent like a prayer. It's important, though, for practitioners to have consent from the recipient before sending Reiki in order to respect and honor the recipient's wishes. Reiki goes for the highest good where it is needed and wanted, and not wanting to receive Reiki means that it will not go to you.
