Christian Stone | Standing Stones Healing Co. I just launched my website and have social set up, but how do I get my site to come up on Google searches? SEO, search engine optimization, is a fancy term for having your website show up in search results, and it's something that takes time to establish. Google favors older websites over newer ones, and so the best thing for coming up in search results is time. When you think about it, this makes a lot of sense. Google is a business and wants to serve its customers (searchers) with the highest quality of matches and sites that are trustworthy. Otherwise, people will stop using its service. One way to ensure that it's offering legit results and not a bunch of scam and spam is to favor sites that have been around longer. So the longer your website is live, the higher it will rank in search results over time. Of course, this isn't the only key to showing up on Google. Using key words is helpful, and these are words that your ideal client would be searching for. It's a good idea to have the word "Reiki" in multiple places on your website. And if you're offering Reiki for something in specific, it's important to include these terms and phrases, too. For instance, one of the main things I do in my Reiki business is help Reiki business owners, and you'll find "Reiki business" all over my site. It's not as popular a search term as something like "Reiki healing," but it's an important one to my Reiki business. If you want your site to get noticed by Google, I also definitely recommend a blog. I get hundreds of visitors to my site each month because of my blog alone, including one article that currently brings in 70-80 (and growing) visits each month. (It's this one.) It's growing because, as it shows up in more search results, and as more people click on it, Google ranks it higher. Because these clicks and visits from search results help Google to see that my website is trustworthy and helpful, it shows up in more searches. I have a whole Build Your Reiki Business podcast episode on blogs and an article on it, too: You Need a Reiki Website Blog. Backlinks are also helpful for getting your site recognized by Google. Backlinks are when your site is linked to from other sites. The more trustworthy these sites are, the better for your own site. Doing things like writing articles for trusted Reiki organizations with a link to your website in your bio will give you quality backlinks to help rate your site higher. Finally, I recommend getting a Google Search Console account. This free tool from Google will show you how your site ranks in Google search results and is helpful for learning about how searchers get to your site. It's how I know that my most popular blog article is the most popular. And knowing which blog articles get the most traffic allows me to make changes to the articles to improve them, so it's a very helpful tool. There's lots more to say about SEO, but these are the basics. Create helpful content that your ideal client is interested in, send people to your website, get your site listed on other reputable sites, and know that time will have a positive compounding effect.
