Values in Your Reiki Business

Our values usually aren't the first thing we think about in our Reiki business , but it's important for us to build a Reiki business that aligns with our values. Here's why...

In 2017 I was contemplating a significant decision on my Reiki business journey. I was considering purchasing a crystal/metaphysical shop and was holding multiple discussions with the owner and the commercial real estate company that owned the retail building.

Even though I had the capital to purchase the business outright without a loan, I decided not to go through with the deal. Several factors contributed to my decision: some inventory didn't align with what I wanted to sell, and I probably would have renamed the business and relocated at some point.

But the number one reason I didn't make the purchase was a misalignment with one of my core values: freedom. I realized that owning a retail shop didn't align with my view of freedom for my life. I'd have to manage the shop, adhere to set hours, and be present when it was open. This clashed with my value of freedom, and I decided it wasn't the right fit.

When our experiences clash with our core values, conflicts and challenges arise. In this case, I would have experienced a conflict between needing to manage a retail space and desiring freedom. That's why it's crucial to ensure that your Reiki business aligns with your values. 

If I had purchased the shop, because of the conflict with one my important values, I was setting myself up for added challenges and even failure. Anytime we move forward in a way that conflicts with our core values, it's going to be a struggle to make progress...because we're trying to make progress against what really matters to us. In order to realign with my value of freedom, I would have had to eventually make changes, whether hiring employees or selling the business altogether. A situation that conflicts with our values can't last: either we change what matters to us or the situation changes.

When you're building your Reiki business, it's essential to align it with your values. Your business model should reflect your values, and as you grow your business, it's important to make sure your business maintains alignment with your core values. Otherwise, you'll set yourself up for unnecessary challenges.
