Reiki at Fairs, Festivals, and Expos

Today I booked to attend a fair, and I've never done Reiki at a fair before so any advice is greatly appreciated. Do I need a screen for the session? How long should the session be? And prices!!! What do I charge?

Thanks for your question. I love these kinds of events. They're a lot of fun, so congratulations on your upcoming fair. As for a screen, no, you do not need a screen. I personally no longer offer Reiki at these kinds of events and only offer card readings, but when I did Reiki, I did not use a screen. This is true of many Reiki practitioners. However, if you feel called, you can indeed use a screen. The important thing is to make sure it's ok with the event organizers. At these kinds of events there are often parameters for your set up and it's important to follow those guidelines. So if you're interested in using a screen, always make sure to clear it with the event organizers, who may even need to clear it with the event space.

As far as time, shorter is often better at these events. I don't recommend a full session. 20 minutes is often a great amount of time. I'm personally a big proponent of 20 minute spiritual practices, such as meditation or walking, and that can include Reiki sessions, too. You'll find that 20 minutes is a common amount of time for these kinds of events. Remember that the person having the session with you is probably interested in participating in other opportunities at the event, whether meeting with other vendors, having readings, attending workshops, or whatever else might be offered. So shorter is better. It also gives you the opportunity to meet and help more people.

Prices really depend on your location, the venue, and even your strategy. So it's hard to give a price. Many will say $1/minute, but that's also not a "rule." A lower price point at these kinds of events can be helpful, as well, not only to you, but to the participant, too. Since they will want to check out other vendors, maybe make additional purchases, and maybe have other sessions or readings, they'll prefer a lower cost in order to maximize their money.
