Christian Stone | Standing Stones Healing Co. 361 billion emails are sent every single day. That's a lot of e-mails. But how many of those billions are you sending in your Reiki business? E-mail is a powerful way to build your Reiki business, but it's one of the most underused tools for building a Reiki business. Here's why and here are my three biggest e-mail tips... E-mail is incredible because it's not going anywhere. Our clients and potential clients might take social media breaks or go off of social media, or if we have an in-person business, maybe they're not walking past our Reiki studio every day. But the chances are pretty darn good that they are checking their email, and I don't know of anyone who takes an email break. One of the biggest mistakes that I see Reiki business owners make is not using email in their Reiki business. By "using e-mail," I don't mean sending messages to clients or receiving inquiries about their services. I mean using an e-mail sender to send out e-mails to their clients and potential clients on an e-mail list. I explain more about why e-mail is such a good tool for our Reiki business in this episode of the Build Your Reiki Business podcast. It's also down below so that you can go easily listen in. But here are my top three tips for e-mail that you need to know, no matter where you are on your Reiki business e-mail journey, whether you already are using e-mail or have yet to start using e-mail. Please do these three things right now in order from least important to most important. 3. Don't mark it as "spam." If you are subscribed to an e-mail list and you no longer want to receive e-mails from that sender, but you did indeed sign up for the e-mails, please don't mark the e-mails as spam or junk. This has a negative impact on the sender. When we send e-mails from a sender, we get a rating, and the spam complaints actually decrease your rating. When you get a lot of spam complaints, your rating decreases, and your messages don't get delivered as much. If you are receiving e-mails that you don't want and didn't sign up for, by all means, mark them as spam. But if you did sign up for the list, please just unsubscribe and don't mark them as spam. 2. Don't add people to your list without permission. This is very important. Make sure that you don't put people on your list without their permission. You need to have permission before you add someone to your e-mail list. Often new Reiki business owners will start an e-mail list, and they'll ask themselves who they should add. Well, of course they think to add their friends. Then they think to add their contacts. They add my clients. And then they think of people they receive e-mails from, like other Reiki business owners. So they add them, including that Christian Standing Stones guy. That Christian Stone guy may very well want to get your e-mails, but adding someone to your e-mail list without their permission is not only unprofessional, in some instances, it's also illegal. We always want to make sure we have permission before we add someone to our e-mail list. Just because we are on someone else's e-mail list doesn't mean that they want to be added to ours. And yes, that Christian Stone guy is willing to get on your e-mail list...but don't just automatically add him. Technically, that's spam. 1. Create a new e-mail address. This is the number one thing that you need to do when you are considering starting an e-mail list or even if you're not considering starting an e-mail list: create a brand new e-mail address just for getting on lists. In my Reiki business, I don't use my Reiki business e-mail address for signing up for lists. My Reiki business e-mail is a very important and special space for all of my Reiki business stuff. At my Reiki business e-mail address, I receive messages from clients and potential clients, I send out notifications, I receive bills and communication from vendors, and etc. I can't have mailing list emails coming into that address. So, several years ago, I created a special e-mail address specifically for getting onto other Reiki business owners' lists and other lists that I might be interested in getting notifications and messages from. I recommend that you do this too and not receive mailing list messages into your Reiki business e-mail address in order to keep your Reiki business address uncluttered and so you can prioritize important messages. This article is also a video. Tune in below as well as to the podcast episode on why e-mail is such a good idea for your Reiki business. And of course, please feel free to grab my free Reiki Biz Kit. Yes, it will put you on my e-mail list. Yes, you can unsubscribe at any time.
