Christian | Standing Stones Healing Co. Is it important to give Reiki clients feedback after a session? I don't really feel anything and so I am nervous if they were to expect that from me. When sending Reiki, I feel it in my hands as they get hot and tingly. But I don't get anything from the client. I know some people have messages to give or can talk about how they felt certain things over certain areas. Is this something that will develop in time? Thanks for this great question. No, it is not a requirement or even important to give clients feedback after a session. The truth is that sometimes the feedback that practitioners give can be more hurtful than helpful and can be unsettling to a client, especially someone new to Reiki. I personally think it's better to say nothing or have no information to share than to harm a client with information or the way it's conveyed.
It's also absolutely normal to not receive messages or get information, so please know that you're not doing anything wrong. You may indeed begin to receive information or messages as part of the unfolding of your Reiki journey, but if you don't, please know it doesn't mean that it's not working or that you aren't doing a good job or that your clients aren't satisfied. Receiving messages and offering feedback isn't part of the traditional system of Reiki, anyway. As far as what you can do, I encourage you to consider not even bringing it up that you don't receive messages or information. There's no need to say to a client beforehand, "By the way, I don't receive messages, so don't expect any." Sometimes clients who have experienced a Reiki session, especially from a practitioner who does offer feedback and messages, might expect you to share them after a session. If a client asks if you received any information, I encourage telling them nothing came up, everything was fine, and asking them what their experience was...that's what really matters, anyway. I encourage putting the focus on allowing the client to share their experiences, if they had any and if they so choose. The client, too, might not have had any sensations or messages that came up for them during the session, and even if they did, they might not want to share it, so there's no expectation or pressure for the client, either. Please feel free to reach out with any questions, but you're doing great. You may also want to grab the free Reiki Biz Kit for more encouragement. Sending blessings to your sessions!
