Christian Stone | Standing Stones Healing Co. Some providers of other services like hypnosis offer a free 15 minute consultation. They usually do this because they're trying to sell a high cost package, but you can usually select your own appointment time and there are limitless slots, literally anytime of day it seems. How does this work? Does this mean these people don't have anything else to do? I have a full schedule with other work and life commitments and could not do that, so I'm just wondering what the strategy is. I'm thinking of doing a free 15 minute phone consult and offering an amount off a package for doing that so I'll just offer around my availability but was wondering what the secret is if you can fill me in. Yes, there is often a secret to this. These kinds of apppointments are often used as "discovery" or "strategy calls," in which, yes, the point is to get someone to experience the service and then to talk with them about how you can help them more with the goal of purchasing a package of sessions.
In some cases (often) people who use this technique are instructed to only allow people to book in the next day or two, creating a sense of urgency to get in....and often there are lots of times to choose from in this crunched kind of schedule. And yes, it's true that sometimes these providers/coaches don't have anything else to do and aren't seeing many clients or having many "discovery calls" and their availability is a reflection of their lack of clients. But sometimes they might have lots of availability because their business model isn't solely sales calls and sessions. They may have other sources of business revenue and other things they're doing, like teaching, writing, program creation, or product sales. So lots of availability doesn't automatically mean the provider isn't good or their business isn't doing well. These kinds of calls aren't inherently bad, so I don't want to give the impression that they don't work or are inauthentic or etc. You absolutely can do this, too. But one mistake that many practitioners make is to copy someone else. Many practitioners/providers/coaches are trying to figure out how to operate their business. They see what someone else who appears successful is doing, think it must be working, and then try it themselves without knowing what's happening behind the scenes and the strategy behind it. And often the people they're copying are simply copying what others are doing also without knowing why they're doing it. In other words, you can use the strategy call technique if it calls to you, but please don't do it just because someone else is and it seems like they have a good business. The chances are good that they're just copying from someone else. You also aren't required to use discover or strategy or sales calls, even for an online Reiki business. For some Reiki practitioners, it may feel sleazy or slimy. It doesn't have to be that way, of course, and what really matters is how you approach it and your intention. You can have a thriving Reiki business without discovery calls, and as you grow in your Reiki business and have more clients and more referrals, you won't need "sales calls" at all. Your clients, students, and even your social media content will speak for you. Please feel free to reach out with any questions, but use this tactic only if it resonates with you and only if you have your own strategy and process and reasoning behind it. Ultimately, there's nothing wrong with trying it out and seeing how it goes. You can always change it up, but if you don't try, you don't know. I talk about sales calls in my self-paced Distance Reiki Business Builder program. It will cut through all of the overwhelm and confusion and show you how to start and build your distance Reiki business. You can start right now, no sales call required! But of course please feel free to reach out with any questions and blessings to your Reiki biz! Comments are closed.
